Unpretentious, simple and clean.

These are the fundamental characteristics of the photographs of Wally Kowal.

Wally has spent over 30 years developing his eye and honing his craft. His subjects are the situations that we experience every day.

A flash of blue as a bird flies by. A particularly eye-catching light as the sun sets at the end of another day. A flower in the fullness of bloom.

Wally's photographs are not meant to startle you, to engender deep thoughts, or to change your life. Rather, they are meant to be taken as just what they are: moments in time captured in a form of composition and colour.

Wally is largely self-taught in photography. He was editor of photography at his high school and college newspapers, and worked his way through university in the photographic retail trade.

A detour into business marketing at university changed his career path away from being a photographer, but Wally kept up his strong interest in photography as a dedicated amateur.

Wally currently uses 35mm digital format for its flexibility and portability. He has also dallied in the formality and precision of the large-format view camera.
